Nothing like Family... they know from whence you came, the road you traveled, your challenges and struggles, and love you irregardless, always a great support!
Family has always been who we wanted to be more present for, although working and commuting, along with poor health, greatly curtailed our ability to attend events or even have simple visits for decades. Even when a few of my sisters lived locally, it was often difficult to see them or make plans as our commute home was almost 3 hours round-trip. I was able to see mom more often as she lived near where I worked and I'd stop by on my way home. We love spending time with all our siblings, our nieces and nephews, our grandchildren, besides our aunts, uncles, and cousins, whenever we can. Neither of us have living grandparents any longer, which is very sad.
Being retired, travel on good health days is now an option and visiting family who are in other cities has become doable. Too often though, I'm derailed, and plans are scrapped. I'm looking forward to visiting family out of state, and meeting nieces and nephews I have never seen, besides reconnecting with aunts and uncles, sisters and brothers. In searching for my late Uncle Joe's daughters before he passed, years later I was going through some very old letters dated in the 1940's that he had written to his mother, my grandmother Mary... there was a business card in one letter that slipped out as I picked it up. It was the last contact he had with one of his daughters, Patricia! I followed up and now she has been located and we plan on meeting up soon. I can't tell you how happy it made all of us! I was able to send her a few of his personal belongings, like a medal, belt buckle and old photos. In the meantime, her son spent a few days with my brother, Tino who lives near Yosemite. What a wonderful time they both had, talking of Indian heritage and animals and such. Hearts!
We look forward to visiting our relatives, my sisters and brothers, Tim's also, as time goes on and I am road ready! We have much catching up to do... some of my sister's grand-kids we have never seen! My own grand-kids I miss visiting and spending time with, also. The years pass by and they all grow up too fast!
If there is Love in Your Heart, peace will follow
